Call For Papers

Presenting at the 2021 Arizona APCO/NENA State Training Conference offers a great pathway for professional development. Presenters get to meet like-minded people such as yourself, get a chance to ‘talk-shop’ with people who do what you do, and offers a chance to share experience/knowledge.

We actively encourage people who have never presented at a conference to submit their abstract. Presenting at a state conference is a great way to practice your presentation skills, establish credibility in the PSAP community, and introduce yourself to others in the sector. It is also a great way to meet new people and establish contacts for future knowledge-sharing and collaborations.

We invite all parties having experience and expertise in the Public Safety Communications field to submit an abstract to this Call-for-Papers. Presentations will ideally fit into one the following categories:

  • Telecommunicator/Front-Line Operations: Best practices, specific call processes, stress management, incident dispatching, tactical dispatching, lessons learned, customer service, motivational, legal liability, natural/man-made disasters, terrorism, gang violence, EMD techniques, cultural diversity, communications training officer
  • Technical: Lessons learned from significant event or projects, regional or statewide projects, emerging issues, Computer Aided Dispatch, radio systems, telephone systems, recording systems, telematics, GIS and 9 1 1, VoIP, network security, NG9 1 1, public safety networks.
  • Management/Supervision: Supervisory techniques, SOP’s, motivational techniques, developing leadership, teamwork, morale building, scheduling, lessons learned, quality assurance, evaluating and discussing performance, human resource issues, liability, media and public relations, disaster planning, funding and grants, legislative/regulatory issues.

All submissions will be evaluated for inclusion and those presenters who are selected will be notified by email after the initial review of submissions. Evaluation criteria include: Target audience, biography of presenter – including qualifications & speaking experience, title and description of presentation, presentation format (classroom, roundtable, panel). Initial review of submissions will occur on February 1st, 2021.

Presentations should be no longer than 50 minutes, and no less than 40 minutes in length. Opportunities will be available for multi-part sessions, if needed. Presenters will have their conference registration fee waived, however they will be responsible for any and all travel related expenses.
